Grades in Schoology (our learning management system) are to be only used as a guide by students and parents to indicate current performance. Official grades are calculated at the end of each quarter and semester in PowerSchool (our student information system) and are the grades you will see reflected in the Report Card.
Occasionally you or your child may notice a slight difference of 1% between the overall grade in Schoology and the overall PowerSchool grade, the platform used to print report cards and archive grades. The reason for this is the way that each platform calculates the overall grade. When calculating the overall grade for Semester 1, PowerSchool calculates by using the whole number grade from Q1 and Q2. Schoology calculates using Q1 and Q2 to two decimal places.
Schoology will take the Q1 and Q2 grades with decimals to calculate a score of 94%.
95.52% + 93.45% = 94.48%, which is rounded to 94%.
PowerSchool will take the same scores as whole numbers and calculate a score of 95%.
96% + 93% = 94.5%, which is then rounded up to 95%. This is the grade that will appear in PowerSchool.
As explained in the past, the Schoology grade is an indicator of what the report card grade will be in PowerSchool, which is the permanent grade of record.
